Lecture: Ancient Maya Seafarers and Caribbean Trade Routes

📅 Friday, September 11, 2026 📍 Tulum, Q.R. 👤 MURCEO

Long before European ships reached the Caribbean, the Maya were already navigating open water. Their maritime routes connected coastal communities through trade, political alliances and religious pilgrimages to sacred destinations such as Cozumel.

Underwater archaeologist and National Geographic Explorer Guillermo de Anda Alanís will explore this lesser-known chapter of Maya history. De Anda is a researcher with the INAH Quintana Roo Center and director of the Great Maya Aquifer Project.

The free lecture opens a month of special activities celebrating the second anniversary of the Museo Regional de la Costa Oriental.

Friday, September 11 | 6:00 PM
Sala Tunich, Museo Regional de la Costa Oriental | Parque del Jaguar, Tulum

Admission is free.
