Janal Pixán: El Encuentro de Tradiciones

Tulum’s coastal road becomes a Camino de las Ánimas for the second edition of Janal Pixán: El Encuentro de Tradiciones. Sunday’s program connects the hotel zone through a route of altars, a decorated Bicicatrinas ride, sacred walks, ceremonies by the sea, artisans, regional food and makeup stations.

The celebration is organized by Comité Nohoch Tunich in coordination with CANIRAC Tulum, with Colombia and Brazil participating as invited countries. Municipal departments are providing logistical, traffic, safety and civil-protection support.

2:00 PM: Bicicatrinas registration and number assignment at Centro Universitario Inglés.

3:00 PM: Departure for Plaza Hunab, where additional registration will be available.

4:00 PM: Bicicatrinas departure from Plaza Hunab and opening of the coastal altar route.

4:30 PM: Regreso de las Ánimas Navegando at Bahía Punta Piedra, followed at 4:50 PM by a performance from the invited Colombian delegation.

5:30 PM: Umbral de Xibalbá, a sacred walk with songs and prayers through stations at Azulik, La Milpa, Itzamná, Potheads, Boccanera, Mi Vida, Posada del Sol, Blue Venado and Zamas.

6:30 PM: Luz que Cruza el Mar and a ritual capoeira roda at Punta Piedra.

8:15 PM: Bicicatrinas awards at María del Mar.

9:00 PM: Catrina fashion show and characterization program at Zamas, with a xoloitzcuintle exhibition at El Tábano and Villas Medina.

Makeup stations will operate from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Regional artisans, traditional food and additional activities will be found along the coastal route.

Bring a lamp for the return journey and an LED candle for Luz que Cruza el Mar. A special taxi route between Avenida Tulum and the Parque del Jaguar roundabout is advertised at a preferred fare of 10 MXN.
